Materials analysis in the automotive sector (Standard ISO-TS16949:2016)

ISO/TS 16949 standard: what are we talking about?

Developed by the IATF (International Automotive Task Force), the ISO/TS 16949 standard was introduced in 1999 to define a quality system specific to the automotive sector. Linked to the ISO 9001 standard, it meets production requirements specific to safety, environmental and product reliability issues in the automotive industry.

As a guarantee of quality and customer confidence, the adoption of this standard enables the companies concerned to increase their efficiency and enhance their image.

IATF 16949:2016: what are the evolutions?

Updated in 2016 to align with new ISO 9001:2015 criteria as well as structural changes in the market, the standard is now called IATF 16949:2016.

The organization places greater emphasis on :

  • The ethical responsibility of companies

  • Greater mastery of embedded software

  • Better product traceability

Finally, the standard uses the HLS (High Level Structure) model, a common structure for all management systems.

Automotive manufacturers and suppliers have until September 14, 2018, to successfully transition.
