### What is a deformulation?

[Deformulation](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-expertise-services/laboratory-deformulation-analysis-reverse-engineering.md) is an analytical decomposition process that aims to separate, identify and quantify the substances that make up a formulation. To do this, deformulation uses many different [chemical analysis](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/chemical-analysis-laboratory.md).

The deformulation applies to any type of industrial sector and is used in various contexts: 

- Analyze and determine the composition of an unknown mixture/material,
- Compare the composition of several products (double or multi-sourcing),
- Checking the conformity of a product to a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or a technical data sheet,
- Understanding an unusual phenomenon, etc.

### What is a composite?

A composite is a material that consists of at least two materials of different nature.

When two or more materials are combined, a material is obtained which has all the properties of the materials used for its manufacture and is thus a more efficient material. 

A composite is made up of :

- A framework called reinforcement that ensures the mechanical strength of the composite material for example: fiberglass, carbon, hemp, linen.
- A matrix which protects the reinforcement

There is today a large number of composite materials, in particular fiberglass, reinforced concrete, plywood…
