## You need to measure the melting temperature of a material

First of all, the measurement of the melting temperature is an essential step in the characterization of a material. The melting temperature allows to determine the conditions necessary to achieve the fusion of a material or to prevent its fusion.

To measure a melting temperature, a thermal analysis is necessary. Indeed, the [Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA)](https://filab.fr/en/our-technical-resources/differential-thermal-analysis-dta-in-the-laboratory.md) allows to measure the melting temperature of a material with precision. The differential thermal analysis allows to measure the temperature variation between the studied sample and a reference during an exo- or endothermic reaction.

DTA can be used to measure melting temperatures for pharmaceuticals, foods, or inorganic substances.
