### REACH in a few words ...

First of all, [REACH](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/laboratory-reach-analysis/substance-characterization-reach-laboratory.md) (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) is the European regulation that requires all manufacturers and importers of chemical substances, including mixtures of more than one tonne per year, to register these substances with the [ECHA](https://echa.europa.eu/home) (European Chemicals Agency).

### Why REACH?

This registration consists of compiling dossiers containing information on the physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties of the substances, an assessment of the risks to health and the environment and the appropriate management measures. Obtaining and validating this data requires a REACH test to be carried out.

All substances are covered, including natural and organic substances and metals. Those used in industrial processes and those found in mixtures such as cleaning products, paints as well as substances contained in articles such as textiles, furniture, IT equipment or electronic components.

**Manufacturers**, **users** and **importers** of these substances located in the EU must undergo REACH testing.
