# Tribology in laboratory surface analysis

## You have a problem involving tribology in surface analysis

### Tribology in a few words

Tribology is the science that studies the phenomena that can occur between two material systems in contact, whether they are moving or stationary. The term tribology therefore refers to a variety of fields such as wear, friction, lubrication and the study of interfaces.
### Why perform tribology in surface analysis?

Tribology allows the study of different types of wear:

- wear by **abrasion/erosion**
- wear by **adhesion** (tearing of materials adhering to each other)
- wear by [**corrosion**](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-expertise-services/laboratory-analysis-deposit-contamination/laboratory-expertise-and-analysis-of-corrosion.md)(for metal surfaces)
- **fatigue** wear

If you are concerned by one or more of these problems, the [analysis of your surfaces](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/laboratory-surface-characterization.md) by means of tribology is necessary.

#### Performance measurement :

- Study and characterisation of tribological properties (hardness, friction, wear)
- Versatile tribological platform that can imitate a wide range of real environments
- Hardness (Vickers micro indentation),
- Scratch test (Rockwell C)
- Lubrication properties (stribeck curves)
- Mechanical surface resistance
