### What does the ASTM A380 standard say?

[ASTM A380](https://m.boutique.afnor.org/en-gb/standard/astm-a380-a380m17/standard-practice-for-cleaning-descaling-and-passivation-of-stainless-steel/am98216/272942) describes the analytical methods for cleaning, descaling and passivating new stainless steel parts, assemblies, equipment and systems. It includes 11 different cleaning processes (alkaline, emulsion, solvent, detergent, etc.) and describes cleaning techniques (steam degreasing, ultrasonic cleaning, mechanical cleaning and water jet cleaning).

### What is the purpose of the ASTM A380 standard?

The standards set out in this standard are designed to eliminate surface contaminants from stainless steels that could have a detrimental effect on corrosion resistance, lead to subsequent contamination of a steel grade or cause product contamination.
