# Hydrogen embrittlement characterization laboratory

## You wish to carry out hydrogen embrittlement test on your metals

[Hydrogen](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/metallurgical-analysis-laboratory/laboratory-analysis-hydrogen.md) embrittlement is a phenomenon that causes metals to crack on contact with hydrogen. It is a common phenomenon due to the diffusion and dissolution of hydrogen in metals. Combined with mechanical stresses, hydrogen creates hairline cracks that progressively enlarge over time. [Hydrogen](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/metallurgical-analysis-laboratory/laboratory-analysis-hydrogen.md) embrittles [metals](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/metallurgical-analysis-laboratory/laboratory-analysis-metals.md) by several mechanisms. This can be due to internal pressures, weakening of the bonds between atoms, and a decrease in ductility. The FILAB laboratory performs hydrogen embrittlement characterisation on your metals.
