# Laboratory analysis of iron alloys

Our laboratory is expert in **[metallurgical analysis](https://filab.fr/en/sectors-of-activity/laboratory-metallurgy-steelmaking-analysis.md)**such as iron and [**alloy analysis**](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/metallurgical-analysis-laboratory/metallic-alloy-analysis-laboratory.md), offering advanced expertise in determining chemical composition and physico-chemical properties.

## Your needs: analysis of iron alloys

### Laboratory iron analysis

Using advanced analysis techniques, our laboratory delivers accurate and reliable results for every iron analysis.

Our teams provide fast, standards-compliant service to ensure the quality and safety of our iron-based products.

Iron is an abundant, robust and magnetic metal, essential to many industries.
Depending on its forms and alloys, it meets a variety of technical needs:

**Pure iron**: mainly used in laboratories or as a base for alloy manufacture, it offers good thermal conductivity and stable magnetization.  **Steel (Iron-Carbon)**: modulated according to carbon content, it is ubiquitous in automobiles, machine tools, pipelines and household appliances. **Cast iron (Iron-Carbon-Silicon):**very hard but brittle, it is used for massive castings such as manhole covers, machine frames or brake disks. **Stainless steel (Iron-Chromium-Nickel)**: corrosion-resistant, used in the food, medical, chemical and architectural industries. **Alloy steel (iron + molybdenum, vanadium, etc.**): for demanding technical applications (aerospace, defense, nuclear), these steels are reinforced to withstand extreme stress. **Electromagnetic steel (iron-silicon)**: optimized for electrical applications (transformer cores, motors, generators) thanks to its low magnetic loss.
### Analysis of iron alloys

Iron alloys, such as **stainless steel (316L steel), cast iron and alloy steel**, have a wide range of properties and are used in many industrial sectors.

The FILAB laboratory carries out **comprehensive analysis of the composition of iron alloys** to help optimize production and recycling processes, or any other need you may have as an industrialist.

We identify alloying elements and measure concentrations to meet the technical specifications of each project.

### Iron composition analysis

The analysis of iron composition ensures that materials meet the required quality standards.

Our laboratory offers a service dedicated to verifying the chemical composition of iron and its alloys, by measuring the proportions of chemical elements such as steel, stainless steel and electromagnetic steel.

These analyses **validate the conformity of materials** for demanding applications in terms of durability and resistance.

### Stainless steel alloy composition analysis

Stainless steel is an iron-based alloy containing chromium, often supplemented by other elements such as nickel, molybdenum or manganese. These additions optimize its mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and high-temperature behavior.

The chromium content, generally in excess of 10.5%, plays an essential role in the formation of a protective passive layer that prevents the metal from oxidizing. The precise composition of the alloy – particularly the presence of nickel – has a direct influence on its chemical resistance, malleability and strength, depending on the environment in which it is used.

By analyzing the chemical composition of a stainless steel, we can verify its compliance with expected specifications, anticipate its behavior in real-life conditions, and guarantee its reliability in demanding sectors such as the chemical, food, medical and energy industries.
