## FAQ

 What materials are analyzed according to ISO 15350 ?
This standard is strictly dedicated to **steels and cast irons**. It covers a wide range of concentrations, from ultra-low carbon steels to highly alloyed cast irons.

 How does infrared detection work?
 During combustion under oxygen, Carbon is converted into CO2 and Sulfur into SO2. These gases absorb light at specific wavelengths in the **infrared spectrum**. The absorption intensity is directly proportional to the quantity of the element present in the sample.

 What is the difference between ISO 15350 and ASTM E1019?
Although the techniques are similar (Combustion and IR), ISO 15350 is the preferred **international reference** on certain European markets, while ASTM E1019 is more commonly cited in American specifications. Filab is able to comply with both standards.

 What sample preparation is required?
The sample must be clean and free of surface contaminants (oils, greases). Filab systematically performs **rigorous cleaning** prior to analysis to measure only the Carbon and Sulfur **in the bulk material** (core).
