# Laboratory analysis of microplastics in accordance with the CSRD Directive

## You would like to carry out a microplastics analysis in accordance with the CSRD Directive

### What are microplastics?

Microplastics are small particles of plastic (< 5 mm) dispersed in the environment. They may be fragments of plastic objects or plastic microbeads, which are increasingly used by industry in [cosmetics](https://filab.fr/en/sectors-of-activity/laboratory-analysis-cosmetics.md), [paints](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/polymer-materials-analysis-laboratory/laboratory-analysis-paint-varnish.md) and detergents, as well as in certain agricultural, [medical](https://filab.fr/en/our-technical-resources/laboratory-analysis-sem-scanning-electron-microscopy/laboratory-sem-edx-analysis-for-the-healthcare-industry/) and construction products.

Our intensive use of plastics in everyday life has led to the appearance of slowly degradable plastic materials that are entering our environment, our food chain and our water. Regular checks on your products and industrial environments may therefore be necessary.

### What does the CSRD Directive say about microplastics analysis?

The European CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), which came into force in January 2023 and will apply progressively until 2026, requires companies to publish detailed information on their sustainability performance, covering environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects.

The SRW directive requires manufacturers to report annually on microplastics and the control of microplastic discharges (in addition to other pollutants, heavy metals, etc.) in products, as well as discharges in plants (sludge, water, air, etc.).

Although microplastics are not explicitly mentioned, companies with a significant impact on the environment must assess and declare their contributions to pollution, including that linked to plastics and microplastics.

Therefore:

- Companies in the [plastics](https://filab.fr/secteur-activite/analyse-plasturgie-analyse-polymeres/), cosmetics or textile industries must report on their environmental impact.
- Companies must detail their management of resources and their efforts to reduce pollution, which potentially includes discharges of microplastics.

## The FILAB laboratory can help you analyse microplastics in accordance with the CSRD Directive

### Why choose FILAB for microplastics analysis according to the CSRD Directive?

At FILAB we understand the crucial importance of compliance with European sustainability regulations, in particular the CSRD. The FILAB laboratory has developed extensive expertise in the characterization and analysis of microplastics and is able to support you in the analysis of microplastics in accordance with the CSRD Directive, REACH regulations.
