### Thermoplastic polymers in a nutshell

Firstly, a thermoplastic [polymer](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/polymer-materials-analysis-laboratory/laboratory-material-testing/laboratory-polymer-characterization/) is a polymer that has the property of softening when heated, but which becomes hard again on cooling. The softened state thus allows **mechanical deformation**, which is frozen by cooling.

The **thermoplasticity of** thermoplastic polymers is **reversible**, unlike thermoset polymers which, once cooled, can no longer change shape.
