Glyoxal, also called ethanedial, is an organic compound of crystalline form, represented as a white solid at low temperature, yellow liquid near the melting point, and green vapor at high temperature. It is soluble and very reactive, which polymerizes easily.

Glyoxal is used as a cross-linking agent in the paper, paint, adhesive and glue industries.

Glyoxal is also used as a synthesis intermediate for the manufacture of pharmaceutical products, perfumes, dyes, disinfectants…
