# Expertise of failures by SEM in laboratory

## Would you like to analyze your failures using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)?

### What is a failure?

To begin with, a failure is a deterioration of the product. It may be linked, among other things, to the manufacturing process, the application environment, or the method of use.

In addition, a failure can affect a number of parameters. Indeed, it impacts the reliability, strength and performance of the product or material. Furthermore, failures are manifested by:

### Why analyze a failure by SEM?

First of all, failure analysis requires the implementation of a methodological approach in order to identify the nature and origin of the defect. Then, in a second step, corrective actions must be put in place.

For this purpose, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is a reference technique in failure analysis investigations. It is an electron microscopy technique that makes it possible to determine the surface structure as well as the morphology of a material, and even certain of its chemical properties.

## FILAB supports you in failure analysis by SEM

Through our three levels of services: analysis, expertise and R&D support, FILAB assists companies across all sectors with failure analysis by SEM. To do this, FILAB provides its clients with the know-how and experience of its team, as well as a 2,100 m² analytical facility equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

Moreover, the FILAB laboratory has significant experience in **developing specific methods** for failure analysis by SEM**.**
