Ion chromatography (IC) is one of the oldest chromatographic analysis techniques, known as ion-exchange resins. The principle of ion chromatography is simple: a column is made up of a resin that is either positively charged (to separate anions) or negatively charged (to separate cations). In addition, the eluent acts as a carrier for the anions and cations to be separated. As for the detection of anions and cations by ion chromatography, it is carried out using a conductivity detector.
