### Why solve material adhesion problems?

First of all, the surface of a material is a vulnerable zone where interactions with its environment take place. Its specific characteristics determine the overall performance of materials.

Adhesion is the state of an object (or a material) when it holds tightly to another by contact of its entire surface

To characterise the adhesion of a material, mechanical tests (peel, bend, shear and tensile tests, etc.) have been developed. Other tests such as the blister, grid or indentation test have also been standardised.

However, during production, storage or use of a material, you are faced with problems of material adhesion.

An important criterion for many types of products such as paint, adhesive tape, wallpaper or tyres, adhesion depends on the following 5 factors :

1. the nature of the materials in contact
2. the temperature
3. the condition of the surfaces in contact
4. the perpendicular force exerted
5. the presence (or not) of a lubricant

Thus, the support of a laboratory competent in the analysis of adhesion problems is indispensable in the context of the resolution of material adhesion problems.
