### What is the LC-Corona analysis technique?

First of all, the LC-Corona is a special model of CAD detector. The acronym LC-CAD stands for**Liquid Chromatography with Charged Aerosol Detector**.

The associated instrument is used to detect molecules of interest in mixtures. It is used in conjunction with a high-performance liquid chromatography[(HPLC](https://filab.fr/en/our-technical-resources/laboratory-analysis-uplc.md)) system, which separates the molecules in solution.

### Why carry out an LC-CAD analysis?

The CAD Corona is a detector that can be used for [LC, HPLC](https://filab.fr/en/our-technical-resources/laboratory-analysis-uplc.md) and [UPLC](https://filab.fr/en/our-technical-resources/high-pressure-liquid-chromatography-uplc-laboratory.md) analysis, generating a signal based on the molecules charged (by a gas after desolvation) and producing a graph of the signal intensity as a function of time. This detector is universal and its response is independent of the chemical structure of the targeted molecule, except that the latter must be non-volatile or semi-volatile.

It therefore works with a wide variety of molecules and offers great versatility in analytical chemistry. LC-Corona analysis can therefore be applied to a wide variety of sectors, including pharmaceuticals.
