### What are n-glycans?

**N-Glycans** are complex carbohydrate structures (glycans) covalently attached to proteins via an asparagine residue (N-[glycosylation](https://filab.fr/en/sectors-of-activity/biopharmaceutical/glycosylation-analysis.md)). This type of post-translational modification plays a crucial role in protein stability, solubility, function and immunogenicity.

### Classification of N-glycans

  Complex N-Glycans: contain sialic acid residues and are involved in cellular interactions. Hybrid N-Glycans: exhibit a combination of complex motifs and basic structures. Paucimannosidic N-glycans: present in particular in certain organisms and involved in specific functions.
