# RCCM water analysis laboratory

## Do you need RCCM water analysis (grade a, b, c)?

### What is RCCM water?

RCCM water is water used in the systems and equipment of nuclear facilities for cooling, heat transfer, or moderating nuclear reactions. This water must comply with the [RCCM](https://www.afcen.com/fr/rcc-m/194-rcc-m.html) standards (Rules for the Design and Construction of Mechanical Equipment for Nuclear Installations) and is specifically subject to strict quality and purity criteria to ensure the safety, performance, and durability of nuclear facilities.

### What are the RCCM requirements?

RCCM requirements ensure that the water contains no [contaminants](https://filab.fr/en/our-technical-resources/laboratory-analysis-sem-scanning-electron-microscopy/laboratory-analysis-contaminants.md) or corrosive substances that could damage mechanical systems or compromise their operation. This includes monitoring parameters such as [chemical composition](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/metallurgical-analysis-laboratory/metallic-alloy-analysis-laboratory.md), pH, conductivity, and the presence of specific substances (such as [chlorides](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/halogen-analysis-laboratory/laboratory-determination-chlorine.md) and [sulfates](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-analysis-services/halogen-analysis-laboratory/sulphate-analysis.md)).

### RCCM water grades a, b and c

Grades A, B and C for RCCM water refer to specific levels of water quality and purity used in [Nuclear](https://filab.fr/en/sectors-of-activity/laboratory-analysis-nuclear-energy.md) facilities, depending on their application and proximity to critical areas of the system. Each grade determines treatment and monitoring requirements to ensure the safety and durability of the equipment concerned.

**Grade A** : This is the highest level of purity. Grade A water is used in highly sensitive areas where contamination or [corrosion](https://filab.fr/en/our-services/our-expertise-services/laboratory-analysis-deposit-contamination/laboratory-expertise-and-analysis-of-corrosion.md) could have major consequences for system safety. This water quality is subject to the strictest standards in terms of chemical composition and cleanliness. It must be free of [particles](https://filab.fr/nos-prestations/expertise/laboratoire-analysis-particules-contamination/), microorganisms, corrosive substances, and have parameters such as pH and conductivity rigorously controlled. **Grade B** : Grade B represents a high level of quality, but slightly less strict than Grade A. Grade B water is used in systems or equipment where the risks of contamination or degradation are lower than in areas treated with Grade A water, but where quality criteria remain essential to prevent corrosion and the formation of unwanted deposits. **Grade C** : This is the least strict of the three grades. Grade C water is used in applications where the risks of corrosion or contamination are lower. Quality controls are less rigorous than for Grades A and B, but still comply with RCCM standards to ensure facility safety. This grade is generally sufficient for auxiliary systems or areas where sensitivity to contaminants is less critical. ![ISO 19443](https://filab.fr/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Centrale-nucleaire-EDF.jpg)
