What is the mineral load?

A mineral filler is a solid material of mineral origin dispersed in a matrix by mechanical means. Generally introduced in powder form, the mineral filler allows to reduce the cost of a material and to modify its density.

In addition, the mineral filler can also improve the properties of a material and fill irregular surfaces to make them flat. This is why mineral fillers are found in paints, construction materials, cosmetics, paper pulp, plastics, etc…

There are several mineral fillers of which the most used are quartz, mica, talc and chalk. 

Why analyze the mineral content of your materials?

As previously stated, mineral filler is, among other things, added to a matrix in order to modify its characteristics. Moreover, depending on the application of your products, the mineral filler content is different in order to meet your needs.

For example, for a paper, a too high mineral content implies a reduction of the inter-fiber bonds and therefore failures.  On the other hand, a too low mineral load in your paints, directly impacts the visual (more or less smooth).

Thus, the analysis of the mineral load of your products by a specialized laboratory is an important step for the development and optimization of your products.
