FILAB supports you in your analysis of AD Blue solutions

AD Blue is used by vehicles equipped with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology, such as trucks, buses and garbage trucks. It transforms 85% of the pollutants (nitrogen oxides, called NOx) into water vapor and harmless nitrogen. The consumption of AD Blue is about 3 L per 100 L of diesel, depending on the vehicle.

AD Blue is a 32.5% aqueous solution of urea. It is prepared in demineralized water and is non-toxic. AdBlue is contained in a dedicated tank in SCR trucks. Since SCR systems are sensitive to impurities in the urea solution, it is imperative to maintain a high quality in the preparation of the solution. These quality requirements are described in ISO 22241, which consists of 4 parts:

– Quality requirements

– Test methods

– Handling, transport and storage

– Filling interface

ISO 22241-2 describes the test methods required to determine the quality characteristics of aqueous urea solutions specified in ISO 22241-1. The analysis to be performed in this context are:

– Determination of urea content

– Measurement of alkalinity

– Determination of the biurea content

– Determination of aldehyde content

– Determination of the insoluble content

– Determination of phosphate content

– Determination of the content of trace metallic elements (Al, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Na, Ni, Zn)

– Determination of the spectral fingerprint by FTIR

FILAB has the expertise and high-level analytical resources to develop and implement AD Blue’s analytical methods. With significant experience in the development of specific methods, FILAB can assist you with your urea solution analysis needs.
