The challenges of cosmetic packaging safety
According to the Cosmetic Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, “a cosmetic product made available on the market is safe for human health when used under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use” (Article 3).
Indeed, after the cosmetic product is made, the solution is packaged. And it is at this moment that it is still possible that the content is polluted by the container because of interractions. Therefore, it is essential to verify that the packaging does not contain any relearguable prohibited by the regulation.
Indeed, manufacturers are required to ensure the safety and quality of their cosmetic packaging, in order to avoid the risks of migration, oxidation or failure on their products. Thus, the support of an analysis laboratory allows to bring viable results allowing to evaluate the conformity and the performances of the cosmetic packaging, according to the criteria of a schedule of conditions and the regulatory standards.
