Measurement of the melting temperature in the laboratory
You need to measure the melting temperature of a material
First of all, the measurement of the melting temperature is an essential step in the characterization of a material. The melting temperature allows to determine the conditions necessary to achieve the fusion of a material or to prevent its fusion.
To measure a melting temperature, a thermal analysis is necessary. Indeed, the Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) allows to measure the melting temperature of a material with precision. The differential thermal analysis allows to measure the temperature variation between the studied sample and a reference during an exo- or endothermic reaction.
DTA can be used to measure melting temperatures for pharmaceuticals, foods, or inorganic substances.
