Your needs : to analyze the sun filters used in your cosmetic products

What are sun filters ?

Sun filters provide photochemical protection by absorbing the energy of ultraviolet rays to shield the user’s skin. The two types of filters (against UVB & against UVA) are generally combined in a sunscreen product to guarantee its effectiveness.

To ensure the safety of users, the use of sunscreens in cosmetic products is highly regulated.

Annex VI of the Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009 sets the positive list of UV filters. 27 UV filters are currently authorized, including 3 nanometric filters.

Are you looking for a reliable and reactive laboratory to carry out quality control tests on the sun filters in your cosmetic products? Call on FILAB laboratory!

Our solution: to analyze and quantify sun filters

Techniques used to quantify sun filters in cosmetic products

The quantification of sun filters depends on the nature of their composition. Our analytical fleet is spread over 2100m² of laboratory space and allows us to offer you a wide range of analysis tailored to your cosmetic products:

  • Quantification of organic sun filters by ICP-MS or ICP-MS/MS: In order to reach very low limits of quantification and guarantee the accuracy of the results for the determination of chemical elements (ethyl hexyl methoxycinnamate, ethyl hexyl triazone, octocrylene, 4-Methylbenzyldene camphor, Butyl Methoxy DiBenzoyl Methane, Tinosorb M, Tinosorb S, benzophenone-3, benzophenone-4, ethyl hexyl samycilate, para aminobenzoic acid PABA, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, homosalate, etc
  • Quantification of inorganic sun filters by SEM-EDX: for metal oxides such as TiO2 or zinc oxide, which can even be analyzed as nanomaterials by SEM-EDX.

FILAB laboratory is also able to assist with the following analysis :

  • GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP, etc.
  • In-vivo and in-vitro assessment of your cosmetic products

Why choose FILAB to analyze sun filters?

FILAB is the first independent French laboratory to receive ISO 17025 accreditation for the identification and particle counting of nanomaterials by SEM-EDX. We can thereby guarantee unrivalled reliability in the analysis of inorganic sun filters in your cosmetic products.
Also, we are equipped with an analytical fleet spread over 2100m² of laboratory space which includes an ICP-MS/MS instrument for the analysis of organic sun filters, allowing us to reach very low limits of quantification and thus to provide you with very precise results.

Our teams of engineers and doctors are at your disposal and can assist you throughout the analysis of the sun filters in your cosmetic products.
