Your teams need training in the Pyrolysis GC-MS technique

What is the principle of Pyrolysis GC-MS?

Pyrolysis coupled with mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) is a pyrolysis technique followed by gas chromatography, itself coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It is used to identify and quantify the organic compounds in a sample and to determine its chemical composition by breaking it down into its volatile components. These are then separated and analysed by gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS).

This chemical analysis technique relies on thermal degradation of the material, particularly polymers, copolymers and composites, which for various reasons cannot be analysed directly by GC-MS. Pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) is a highly versatile, easy-to-use technique that does not require complex sample preparation.

The physico-chemical characterisation of a polymer material can be carried out using Py-GC-MS, as well as other thermal analysis techniques such as ATG or ATG-FTIR, and DSC…
