Glycol is a chemical compound also called dialcohol, intermediate between alcohol and glycerine by its chemical properties but also by its physical properties. Glycol is a colorless, odorless, slightly viscous, very hygroscopic liquid, with a slightly sweet taste, miscible with water in all proportions.

One of its main characteristics is that it is used as an antifreeze and component of polyester fibers (Tergal), or resins and films, such as polyester. Besides glycol, polyglycols are also used as plasticizers for plastics, as drying agents for gases or as humectants (tobacco, cork), solvents, extraction agents, etc.
