Among natural chlorine compounds, chlorides are the most widespread. Chlorides are a combination of chlorine with a single element other than oxygen. There are different types of chlorides: Sodium Chloride (table salt), Potassium Chloride, Iron Chloride…

In the fields of chemistry or water/air quality, the presence of chlorides must be closely monitored. For example, the 98/83 European Directive set the maximum limit of chlorine ions in drinking water to 250 mg/L.
