Laboratory analysis of industrial packaging
As an industrialist, you wish to have your packaging and containers analyzed.
Analysis of the conformity of packaging and its compatibility with the products it contains
Industrial packaging is designed to preserve, protect and conserve its contents. Packaging is essential for prolonging the lifespan of a product but is also a way of distinguishing different brands of the same type of product.
Industrial packaging can be made using different materials : cardboard, plastic, ceramic, glass, silicone…
The FILAB laboratory assists manufacturers in the analysis of packaging and containers.

Why analyze or inspect packaging ?
As part of strict environmental, regulatory, technical and marketing constraints, industrial manufacturers are confronted with important issues regarding the conformity of their packaging when putting a new product on the market.
In the food, cosmetics or pharmaceutical sectors, companies are required to ensure the safety and quality of their packaging, in order to avoid the risk of migrations or the oxidation of their packaging. The support of an analytical laboratory can provide viable results in order to evaluate the conformity and performance of packaging, according to the criteria of a scope statement and regulatory standards.
Our FAQ
The objective is threefold:
- Food safety: verify that the packaging does not transfer toxic substances to the product (migration).
- Product protection: ensure that the packaging acts as a barrier against oxygen, moisture, and light.
- Regulatory compliance: meet strict standards (such as EU Regulation 1935/2004 for food contact).
Migration is the transfer of chemical substances from the packaging to the contents. In the laboratory, simulants (liquids replacing the real product, such as ethanol or oil) are used to reproduce storage conditions.
With the rise of the circular economy, laboratories are now analyzing:
- Biodegradability and compostability: according to standard EN 13432.
- Recyclability: verifying that inks, adhesives, or multi-layers do not disrupt recycling streams.
- Absence of heavy metals: Lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium must be limited.
All materials are affected, but the requirements vary:
- Plastics: focus on monomers and additives.
- Paper/Cardboard: focus on mineral oils (MOSH/MOAH) and optical brighteners.
- Metals: focus on corrosion and internal coatings (varnishes).
- Glass: focus on the release of heavy metals.
