Your needs: analyze the microplastics in your cosmetic products
What is a microplastic?
First of all, microplastics are small particles of plastic material that are not soluble in water and whose size is less than 5µm. Used to improve the texture of a product (velvety touch, non-greasy effect, easy spreading), microplastics are dispersed in several types of products, especially in cosmetic products. Indeed, microplastics are found in :
scrubs
shampoos and shower gels
care creams
sprays and gels
Among the most common microplastics are found: phthalates, silicones, polyethylene, etc…
Why analyze microplastics in your cosmetics?
Several regulations are in force in order to reduce, or even eliminate, microplastics from cosmetic products. Indeed, these regulations aim to limit the impact and discharge of microplastics into the environment.
Indeed, in France, the Law for Biodiversity has banned since January 2018, plastic microbeads in rinsed cosmetics for cleaning or exfoliation.
In addition, in January 2019, the ECHA (European Chemical Agency) submitted a proposal for a restriction that falls under the European Reach regulation. This project aims to prohibit the marketing of products containing microplastics intentionally added by manufacturers, if they present a risk of release into the environment.
Thus, the support of a laboratory specialized in the analysis of microplastics is a considerable asset in the optimization of your products.
FILAB supports you in the analysis of microplastics in your cosmetics
For more than 30 years, the FILAB laboratory has had the experience and specific analytical equipment to support the cosmetics industry in the analysis of microplastics in your cosmetic products (make-up, creams, shampoos, etc.) through tailor-made support.
