Expert laboratory: compliance with military standards (MIL)

FILAB, your partner for compliance with international military requirements

In the Aerospace, Space, and Defense (ASD) sectors, compliance with military specifications is the cornerstone of operational safety. These requirements ensure that the materials and processes used for your essential parts will withstand the most hostile environments.

FILAB supports prime contractors and their subcontractors in the rigorous validation of their products according to MIL-SPEC and MIL-STD references. Thanks to dual expertise in chemistry and metallurgy, we transform complex normative requirements into reliable and actionable results.

MIL standards reference for ASD

MIL-T-9047 : Titanium and titanium alloy bars and billets

MIL-A-6088 : Heat treatment of aluminum alloys

MIL-P-83348 : Metal powders for thermal spray coatings

MIL-DTL-5002 : Cleaning and surface treatments for aircraft and weapon systems

MIL-A-22771 :Aluminum alloy forgings

MIL-DTL-14067 :High-strength aluminum alloy castings (foundry)

MIL-S-22499 : Laminated metallic sheets and peelable shims (laminates)

Why centralize your MIL analyses at FILAB?

  • Mastery of demanding environments

MIL standards, such as MIL-STD-810 (environmental tests) or MIL-DTL-5002 (corrosion), require a perfect understanding of interactions between the material and its environment. FILAB simulates and analyzes these degradations to guarantee the longevity of your equipment.

  • Systematic receiving inspection

To secure your production flows, we perform systematic receiving inspections on bars, billets, and powders. This step is crucial to validate your suppliers' material certificates and avoid any non-compliance on your assembly lines.

  • Accreditations and recognition

FILAB benefits from strong certifical qualification in the ASD sector with Safran, Dassault Aviation, and Framatome approvals, as well as ISO 17025 accreditation. Each analysis report is designed to be integrated directly into your military qualification dossiers.

Our FAQ

Why are MIL standards used in civil sectors?

Because they often represent the highest degree of technical severity. A material validated according to MIL-T-9047 offers a guarantee of superior performance, sought after even outside the Defense sector.

What is the difference between MIL-STD and MIL-DTL?
  • MIL-STD (Standard): Defines test methods or management criteria.
  • MIL-DTL (Detail): Specifies the exact requirements of a product or material (e.g., chemical composition).

Can a MIL standard be substituted by an AMS or ISO standard? It depends on the contract. Often, SAE AMS 2770 replaces MIL-A-6088, but the technical requirements remain equivalent. FILAB advises you on these normative equivalences.
