Heavy metal analysis in the pharmaceutical industry

Firstly, heavy metals are elemental impurities from the manufacturing processes of pharmaceutical substances. They originate from the reagents, ligands or catalysts used.

According to the European and American pharmacopoeias, for the safety of patients, heavy metals in finished pharmaceuticals and raw materials must not exceed given limit values and must therefore be analysed. 

Thus, the support of a competent laboratory for the analysis of heavy metals is indispensable in the context of controls and regulatory procedures for the marketing of pharmaceutical products.
