First of all, the acronym PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled or Post-Consumer Resin. These recycled plastics consist of the materials rPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate), rPP (Recycled Polypropylene Plastic) and rHDPE (Recycled High Density Polyethylene).
PCR plastic is a recyclable plastic that can be turned into resin to make new packaging. This gives packaging a second life and massively reduces the amount of plastic waste.
Indeed, the plastic waste is recovered, decolorized and shredded into fine granules. These are then melted down and turned back into recycled plastic.
However, with each recycling process, the materials can begin to lose their substance and quality. As a result, there are higher and lower quality recycled products. Similarly, some PCR plastics cannot be recycled.
Thus, the support of a competent plastics analysis laboratory is essential to be able to perform PCR plastics analysis.
