You wish to carry out crystal phase studies in polymers

Crystalline phases in polymers in brief

Firstly, the crystalline state in a polymer is characterised by long-range order. Indeed, during crystallisation, the chains, having adopted a regular planar zigzag or helical conformation, assemble in an orderly and compact manner.

There are different crystal forms but the most common is the lamella.  Polymers crystallise when they have a regular structure and, as there are often irregularities during crystallisation, the polymer only crystallises partially. This is how semi-crystalline polymers are obtained. The semi-crystalline polymer therefore has two phases: the amorphous phase and the crystalline phase.

Why carry out crystal phase studies in polymers

Most of the characteristics of a semi-crystalline polymer can be deduced from the characteristics of the two phases as well as knowledge of the degree of crystallinity. The crystalline phase is characterised in part by the presence of a melting temperature Tf and a crystallisation temperature Tc.

Thus, the determination of the properties associated with the crystalline phases in polymers is a crucial step in the characterisation of these polymers within the framework of a production process as well as within the framework of the characterisation of a finished product.

FILAB supports you in your needs for crystal phase studies in polymers

Through our three levels of services: analysis, expertise and R&D support, FILAB assists companies from all sectors in the implementation of crystalline phase studies in polymers. FILAB provides its clients with the know-how and experience of its team, as well as a 2100m² analytical facility equipped with state-of-the-art techniques such as polymer crystallinity determination by DSC and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
