PMUC: what are we talking about?

What does PMUC mean?

Definition of PMUCs

PMUC is the abbreviation for Products and Materials Used in Nuclear Power Plants.

Why perform a PMUC analysis?

PMUC analyses are essential in the context of manufacturers’ applications to EDF for approval of certain products intended for use in nuclear power plants. PMUCs are products that may contain chemical elements from the halogen family and sulfur compounds.

Chemical elements in the halogen family and sulfur compounds can, under certain conditions, be aggressive and cause various forms of corrosion in metal alloys (stainless and ferritic steels). EDF therefore requires its suppliers to obtain certification and to carry out enhanced monitoring of this type of product.

Which manufacturers are likely to have to carry out PMUC analyses?

These analyses are intended for all EDF suppliers (industrialists, manufacturers, producers, or distributors) who market products that may contain halogenated compounds and must therefore undergo an EDF approval process before being accepted in nuclear power plants. Our customers in this field include manufacturers and distributors of detergents, reagents, consumables, and supplies for construction and renovation.

PMUC certification: what is it all about?

PMUC (Products and Materials Usable in Power Plants) certification is a certification process for any product or material intended for use in French nuclear power plants, particularly those operated by EDF.

Why choose FILAB for your PMUC analyses?

The PMUC certification analyses carried out by FILAB consist of determining the halogen (F, Cl, Br) and sulfur content of products and materials that can be used in nuclear power plants in order to verify compliance with the PMUC chemical specifications required by EDF.

For many years, FILAB has been granted EDF approval to carry out PMUC (Products and Materials Used in Nuclear Power Plants = PMUC) analyses.
