You wish to carry out an analysis of microplastics in water according to the standard XP T90 968-1

Why analyse microplastics in water?

The presence of microplastics in water resources represents a major issue for human health, biodiversity and regulatory compliance. Standard XP T90 968-1 provides a methodological framework for identifying and quantifying these particles, guaranteeing accurate and reproducible analyses.

What standard XP T90 968-1 says

Published in December 2023, standard XP T90 968-1 specifies a method for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of microplastics in water intended for human consumption and groundwater. It is based on the use of microscopy coupled with vibrational spectroscopy, such as :

In particular, it makes it possible to :

Determine the size of microplastics in the range 1 to 5,000 micrometres, count them and classify them by size range.

Identify the chemical composition of microplastics, targeting polymers such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), PET and many others.

Scope of standard XP T90 968-1

The standard applies to water with a low organic and suspended matter content, such as :

  • Ultrapure water complying with standard NF EN ISO 3696.
  • Water intended for human consumption.
  • Raw groundwater.

However, it does not cover the characterisation of substances intentionally added to or adsorbed on the surface of microplastics or the determination of their geometric shape.

The FILAB laboratory analyses microplastics in water according to the standard XP T90 968-1

Why choose FILAB for the analysis of microplastics in water according to the standard XP T90 968-1?

At the FILAB laboratory, we offer a complete, customised solution for carrying out your analysis of microplastics in water, in accordance with standard XP T90 968-1.

Our analysis steps include :

Sample preparation: filtration and extraction of the microplastics present in the water sample.
Chemical and morphological characterization: identification of polymers using techniques such as FTIR or Raman.
Precise quantification: determination of the concentration of microplastics as a function of the size and type of polymer.
