Measurement of adenosine content in the laboratory

Cosmetic manufacturers, you wish to measure the adenosine content in your products

What is adenosine?

Adenosine is a nucleoside formed when adenine is attached to a ribose ring, in the form of ribofuranose. Adenosine is therefore formed from the association of the nitrogenous base adenine and this ribose nucleus in the case of RNA, or from a deoxyribose in the case of DNA (it is then called deoxyadenosine).

Thus, adenosine plays major roles in metabolism. As an energy molecule, it can release energy and it also participates in the transduction of intracellular signals. Moreover, it plays the role of a hormonal neurotransmitter.

Why measure the adenosine content in your products?

The use of adenosine in cosmetics is a recent innovation. It helps to restore the skin by giving energy to the cells. Thus, it provides an anti-aging and anti-wrinkle effect on the skin. It is therefore found in eye creams, face serums, anti-aging creams and moisturizing serums.

Therefore, measuring adenosine content as a function of time and environment are key steps in the control or development of cosmetic products.
