As a manufacturer, you want to carry out a cracking analysis on a material.

What is cracking?

Cracking of a material refers to the appearance of cracks or breaks in its structure. This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as the application of excessive stress, exposure to high or low temperatures, normal wear or fatigue due to repeated cycles of stress.

Why carry out a material cracking analysis?

Cracking can affect a wide range of materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. The phenomenon of cracking in materials is closely linked to their resistance or to production faults. So it’s important to anticipate these phenomena by choosing the right material for its life cycle and carrying out in-depth tests at the manufacturing stage.

The support of a service laboratory will enable you to ensure the conformity and safety of a part or material over time, and to adapt your production processes to reduce the risk of cracks.

The FILAB laboratory analyses the cracking of your materials and assists you with your problems.

The FILAB laboratory, with its expertise in industrial failures, offers you its cracking analysis and characterisation techniques to assess your material cracks or fractures. Using cutting-edge analytical methods such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-FEG EDX), supplemented by optical microscopy observations, our team carries out fractographic expertise to identify the conditions under which cracking occurs. Dilatometry analyses can also be carried out.

In this way, we can determine the origin and characteristics of the material crack: whether or not it is an isolated phenomenon, whether it appeared during the production process or when the product was put on the market… and highlight the presence of any material defects.
