CODAP analysis: meeting the guideline requirements
Would you like to carry out analysis according to CODAP?
What is CODAP?
The CODAP (Code for the construction of unfired pressure vessels) is a French code developed by SNCT (Syndicat National de la Chaudronnerie, Tuyauterie et Maintenance Industrielle). It governs the design, manufacture, inspection and documentation of pressure equipment that is not heated by a direct flame.
CODAP standard requirements
The requirements of CODAP are structured to ensure the safety, reliability and regulatory compliance of pressure equipment. These requirements cover every stage: design, manufacture, inspection and documentation.
Equipment must be designed according to rigorous calculation rules, taking into account the maximum allowable pressure, operating temperature, mechanical stresses, corrosion and fatigue conditions.
The materials used must be compatible with the requirements of the code, particularly in terms of mechanical strength, chemical composition and corrosion resistance, and must be fully traceable.
Manufacturing processes must be validated, especially welding, which requires specific qualifications for procedures (WPS) and welders (WPQ).
Non-destructive testing must be carried out at different stages of manufacturing, such as visual inspection, dye penetrant testing, radiography, ultrasonic testing or magnetic particle inspection, depending on the required level of scrutiny.
A pressure test is mandatory at the end of manufacturing, often a hydrostatic test, to verify the equipment's resistance to a pressure higher than the maximum operating pressure.
A manufacturer’s file must be compiled, bringing together drawings, material certificates, inspection reports, welding procedures, qualifications and test records.
Compliance with European Directive 2014/68/EU (PED) is integrated, with specific requirements regarding CE marking, final inspection and the involvement of notified bodies.

FAQ
CODAP is used in sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, energy, water treatment, and even biotechnology. It is particularly relevant in contexts where the European PED directive (2014/68/EU) applies.
No, CODAP is not a standard in the ISO or EN sense, but a recognized construction code, often required as a technical reference in industrial specifications.
It is compatible with the PED directive.
