Your needs: carry out corrosion resistance testing

What about corrosion resistance testing ?

Laboratory corrosion resistance testing is essential for assessing the resistance of materials or coatings when exposed to corrosive environments. These tests can be used to predict the life and performance of materials under real-life conditions, and to select the most suitable materials for specific applications.

What are the main corrosion resistance testing methods ?

Salt spray testing

The salt spray testing simulates an aggressive marine or industrial environment. A mist of salt solution is sprayed onto the sample to observe the formation of corrosion. The standards associated with this test are ISO 9227, ASTM B117.

This technique is mainly used to test protective coatings, paints and metallic materials.

Humidity testing

With this technique, the sample is exposed to a controlled humid environment at a specific temperature, often around 100% relative humidity.

The aim is to assess the corrosion resistance of a material under prolonged exposure to humid conditions.

Cyclic corrosion testing

These tests reproduce cycles alternating between different environments (salt spray, humidity, drying, etc.). They give a better idea of how materials behave in alternating environments. The standards associated with this test are ASTM G85 and ISO 16701.

Electrochemical tests

Electrochemical techniques such as voltametry and potentiometry are widely used in the laboratory for the detailed analysis of reactions on the surface of materials. These techniques can be used to analyse the formation of passive films, the effectiveness of coatings and to assess the potential lifetime of a material.

Stress corrosion testing

With this technique, the sample is subjected to mechanical stress in a corrosive environment to assess its susceptibility to stress corrosion.

This test is essential for materials used in sectors where parts are subjected to both mechanical stress and corrosive environments, such as aerospace and energy.
