As a cosmetics manufacturer, you would like to carry out an analysis and dosage of HEMA and OTP in your varnishes

HEMA et OTP qui sont-ils ?

HEMA (Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate) is a methacrylate monomer widely used in cosmetic products, particularly in semi-permanent varnishes and UV gels. It improves product adhesion and flexibility, while ensuring good polymerisation under UV light. It presents allergenic risks.

OTPs are a group of oligomers, trimers and polymers found in many cosmetic products, particularly nail varnishes and gels. They reinforce the structure of formulations, ensure that the product holds well over time, and enable specific textures to be obtained (thicker or more fluid). Some polymers may contain residual monomers that can be irritating.

Existing regulations on HEMA and OTP in coatings

The regulations governing methacrylates in cosmetics, in particular HEMA, are based on several directives and regulations:

Regulation (EC) N°1223/2009

Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 on cosmetic products imposes restrictions on certain substances likely to cause allergic reactions.

REACH

The REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) requires the registration and evaluation of chemical substances used in formulations.

Le Règlement REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), exige l’enregistrement et l’évaluation des substances chimiques utilisées dans les formulations.
