Do you want to characterize metal powders for your medical devices

Why characterize metal powders for medical devices?

Metal powders hold a special place in the manufacture of medical devices.

Indeed, metal powders such as hydroxyapatite (HAP) can be used to manufacture surgical implants as a filler material. Likewise, metal powders can be used for the additive manufacturing of implants requiring a complex technical structure.

Therefore, characterizing the physicochemical properties as well as the quality of your metal powders is an essential step in the control and manufacture of medical devices.

FILAB supports you in the characterization of metal powders for your medical devices

Through our three levels of services: analysis, expertise, and R&D support, FILAB supports medical companies in the characterization of metal powders for their medical devices. To do this, FILAB provides its clients with the know-how and experience of its team, as well as a state-of-the-art analytical platform equipped with cutting-edge equipment.

The FILAB laboratory is COFRAC-accredited to ISO 17025 for:

  • specific surface area measurement using the BET method (according to ISO 9277) and particle size analysis by laser diffraction (according to ISO 13320 in liquid and dry media),
  • density measurement by helium pycnometry (according to ASTM B923 and ISO 12154),
  • grain size determination (according to ASTM E112 and NF EN ISO 643) for bulk materials.
