Laboratory surface treatment bath analysis
Control the composition of your baths to ensure the performance of your surface treatments
Mastering a surface treatment bath is essential to ensure the quality, reproducibility, and durability of the coatings applied to industrial parts.
During use, a bath naturally changes: active species are consumed, impurities accumulate, contamination occurs, and pH or chemical balance may vary. These phenomena can lead to deposition defects, a loss of corrosion protection, poor adhesion, or production non-conformities.
The FILAB laboratory supports industrial companies with the chemical analysis and assessment of surface treatment baths to ensure process control and identify the causes of deviations.
Our bath analysis and expertise services
The FILAB laboratory monitors the essential parameters required for the proper operation of your treatment baths:
We analyze surface treatment baths using 23 methods: Bonderite C-AK E-1107, Bonderite C-AK 5948DPM, HDL 202, TURCO 4338LP1, TURCO 4338LP2, HNO3-HF (PS222), HNO3 (TURCO 4104), HNO3 (50%), AP988, H2S04 (A110), HCL (A106), NICKEL (A106), H3BO3, CHLORIDES (A104), HNO3-HF (Blue Etch), H2SO4 (Blue Etch), NaF (Blue Etch), H2SiF6 (Blue Etch), HNO3 (Blue Etch), anodizing bath (Blue Etch).
Expertise & Support
Bath comparison study & diagnosis of failure to meet performance requirements
Support in selecting surface treatments
Beyond analytical testing, the experts at the FILAB laboratory support you in interpreting the results in order to identify the causes of process deviations.
We provide support in particular for:
- diagnosing failure to meet treatment performance requirements;
- comparing several treatment baths;
- characterizing bath contamination;
- monitoring treatment uniformity;
- supporting the selection of a surface treatment suited to your application;
- analyzing parts with process-related defects.
Our approach makes it possible to correlate analytical results with the performance observed on treated parts.
Corrosion testing
Adhesion test & cross-cut test
Discontinuity detection and specification verification
Examples of surface treatment bath analysis applications
Following a drop in process performance, the FILAB laboratory carries out a complete physicochemical characterization of the bath by ICP-OES, ion chromatography, and titrimetry. The analysis highlight a surfactant concentration outside specifications, enabling the client to implement the appropriate corrective actions.
Appearance defects are showing up on parts in production. The analysis reveal the presence of metallic contaminants responsible for the deterioration of coating quality and make it possible to identify the source of the contamination.
Customer Qualification
SAFRAN APPROVAL
Several years ago, FILAB obtained Laboratory Qualification from the SAFRAN group under procedures GRP-0087, GRM-0123 and TTS-MOP-004. This qualification is regularly renewed following audits carried out by Safran at our premises.

Our FAQ
Analysing a surface treatment bath makes it possible to verify its chemical composition and ensure that it meets process requirements. It helps prevent deviations, limit non-conformities, extend bath service life and guarantee the quality of the coatings obtained.
A bath should be monitored:
- when it is commissioned;
- as part of periodic production monitoring;
- after a formulation adjustment;
- in the event of defects on treated parts;
- before process qualification or a quality audit.
Regular monitoring helps anticipate deviations before they affect production.
