Your teams need training in scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

Have you just acquired a SEM for your laboratory? Are the competent person or persons no longer part of your team? Would you like to improve your expertise in SEM analysis and results interpretation? FILAB supports your teams with SEM training.

What is the principle of scanning electron microscopy (SEM)?

The Scanning Electron Microscopy technology SEM-EDX is a microscopic analysis technique used in the laboratory. It uses a field emission gun. With this technique, images are produced at very high resolution of the surface of a sample (magnification of around *1000000).

What are the technical features of SEM?

SEM is equipped with several technical features such as:

Detailed study of different surfaces using ultra-high-definition image resolution

Fast, sensitive energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) for semi-quantitative chemical analysis

Non-destructive analysis of all types of materials (without metallization)

Why take a training course in scanning electron microscopy?

SEM

Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is an essential surface analysis technique for the detailed observation of structures, defects and morphologies in a wide range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aerospace and advanced materials. Mastering the use of an SEM microscope provides a better understanding of the microstructural characteristics of materials, helps interpret quality defects, supports R&D decisions and meets regulatory requirements. Targeted training enables your teams to work more independently when reading SEM images, optimize the use of results and secure your analysis for development, investigation or production projects.

SEM training (microscopy) with the FILAB laboratory

The FILAB laboratory, expert in materials characterization and SEM-EDX analysis, offers professional training designed to pass on the technical and operational fundamentals of scanning electron microscopy, while adapting them to your specific challenges.

Tailor-made training

At FILAB, we develop and offer our clients only tailor-made training, aligned with your industrial challenges or analytical needs.

Indeed, each SEM training course is customized according to your sector (pharma, medical devices, cosmetics, metallurgy…), your objectives and your teams’ level.

Would you like to train technicians in surface observation, understand contamination phenomena, interpret fractures, or characterize powders or coatings?
We adapt the content, practical examples and materials to your real samples, your production constraints and your quality or R&D challenges.

Thanks to this tailor-made approach, your employees quickly build their skills and can integrate SEM into your workflows in a relevant way.

FILAB, approved training organization and accredited laboratory

FILAB is both an independent analytical laboratory accredited to ISO 17025 and an approved training organization, recognized for its technical expertise and its ability to train manufacturers and laboratories on their specific challenges.

With its three scanning electron microscopes (SEM-EDX) and the expertise of its engineers in materials, surfaces and contamination, FILAB has been offering customized technical training tailored to manufacturers’ needs for more than 10 years.

Each year, the laboratory supports organizations in demanding sectors—including fine chemicals, surface treatment, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, transport, cosmetics and luxury goods—in strengthening the skills of their quality, R&D and production teams, using cutting-edge equipment and real-world case studies.

Choosing FILAB training means benefiting from a transfer of know-how directly rooted in field experience, validated by years of practice serving regulated sectors with stringent technical requirements.

Why choose FILAB for SEM training for your teams?

As an approved training organization, FILAB supports your teams in using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis techniques, whatever your industry sector.

By choosing FILAB, you benefit from applied SEM training, led by field experts, tailored to your samples and your industrial challenges (quality, R&D, production) and to your operational objectives : defect observation, coating inspection, cleaning validation, etc. Unlike standardized approaches, FILAB offers tailor-made training, adjusted to the level of your teams, to your industry sector and to your needs for autonomy or skills development.

To register for the training or to obtain a quote, please contact us directly by email or phone.

The training will start within 3 months from the acceptance of the agreement.

Why turn to FILAB for any training in analytical chemistry or materials?

The FILAB laboratory is QUALIOPI certified for its training activities.

Thanks to this certification, the training courses we provide may be eligible for funding requests from OPCOs.

Analytical training is essential for professionals seeking to master analysis and characterization techniques; in fact, it covers a wide range of techniques intended for the analysis and characterization of substances, materials, or products across various industrial sectors.

Our analytical training programs are designed to equip participants with the skills needed to excel in their field, combining rigorous theory with practical applications. Discover how our analytical training can transform your skill set within your company.

Several factors are behind the growing number of training requests at FILAB:

Tailor-made technical training: most training courses offered by many training providers are standard, not tailored, and do not address your technical issues

Highly qualified people: our trainers are laboratory professionals, PhDs, or specialized engineers

Industry know-how: FILAB has been delivering training to its clients for over 10 years, whatever the industrial sector

A unique profile with dual expertise in Chemistry and Materials

A human-sized organization, which allows us to be more responsive and more flexible

FAQ

Is the training suitable if we do not have an in-house SEM?

Yes. The training can focus on reading, interpreting and understanding SEM images, enabling teams to collaborate more effectively with external laboratories or submit relevant analytical requests.
What types of applications are covered during the training?
Depending on your industry, the training may include coating characterization, particulate cleanliness analysis, surface studies, failure analysis (fracture, corrosion), powder morphology, residues, deposits, and more. The company’s real samples can be incorporated into the session.

What technical level is required to attend the training?

There are no specific prerequisites. The content is adapted to the participants’ level, whether they are beginners or already experienced users. FILAB tailors the training to your in-house skills to ensure progressive, targeted development.

What are the benefits of SEM training for the pharmaceutical industry?

In pharmaceuticals, SEM is used to characterize powders, inspect dosage forms, and study deposits or coating defects. The training enables teams to make better use of these analysis for quality or regulatory dossiers, and to communicate effectively with analytical laboratories.

How can SEM training be useful in the aerospace or automotive industries?

SEM is essential for analyzing metal surfaces, heat treatments, adhesion defects and corrosion. The training enables engineers and technicians to understand material failures, interpret SEM/EDX images and respond more quickly during technical investigations
