Do you need PMUC approval testing for your ion exchange resins?

Ion exchange resins are purification resins that can be used in nuclear power plants. Like all other PMUC materials (Products and Materials Used in Power, Nuclear or Thermal Plants), ion exchange resins can potentially have a corrosive effect on steels when they contain halogenated or sulfur-containing species. It is essential to carry out PMUC approval testing on ion exchange resins entering the nuclear perimeter.

To be authorized for sale, these resins must be approved by EDF, after testing has been carried out in an EDF-approved laboratory for PMUC.

FILAB supports you with your PMUC approval testing needs for your ion exchange resins

There are different types of exchange resins: cation, anion, non-lithiated mixed-bed ions, lithiated mixed-bed ions, and Na/OH mixed-bed ions.

These resins come in 3 forms: gel, high-capacity gel, or macroporous.

Tests carried out

Particle size distribution by sieving

Volumetric proportion of anions/cations by physicochemical separation

Percentage of active sites (H+ Li+ Na+ OH-) by titration

Cationic impurity content (Sodium, Iron, Copper, Cobalt, Aluminium, Lead, Mercury) by ICP-AES

Total exchange capacity by titration

Determination of the resin's water content by oven drying

Anionic impurity content (ionic chlorides, ionic sulfates, total chlorides, total sulfates, total silica) by CLI
