DMP 12-300 laboratory safety testing
Qualification and safety testing of degreasing processes according to the DMP 12-300 standard
In the aerospace industry, degreasing critical parts allows no room for compromise. Derived from the historical foundation of Snecma / Safran Aircraft Engines, the DMP 12-300 standard governs the qualification of degreasing products, processes, and equipment to ensure optimum cleanliness without compromising the material integrity of metal parts.
Filab laboratory, an independent laboratory, supports you at every stage of your approval process in accordance with the DMP 12-300 standard.
What the DMP 12-300 standard qualifies and regulates
The DMP 12-300 standard does not merely analyze a chemical formula: it validates the overall compatibility of the product/process combination for cleaning, according to different application types:
Process classification (Classes A, B, C): approval according to the nature of the cleaning agents (solvents, aqueous products, specific degreasers) and their application method.
Equipment validation: assessment of the conformity of degreasing baths and industrial equipment.
Material safety: strict verification that the product or process causes no deterioration of aerospace alloys (high-strength steels, titanium and aluminum alloys, nickel-based superalloys).

Qualification
The DMP 12-300 safety testing framework
To obtain qualification, the degreasing product must pass a rigorous series of physicochemical and metallurgical tests (in particular, those detailed in the requirements tables on pages 3 and 11 of the standard):
Measurement of the protection provided to metal surfaces during and after the cleaning phase.
Assessment of the risk of mechanical embrittlement in high-strength steels caused by atomic hydrogen.
Verification that delayed cracking does not occur under mechanical stress and in an aggressive environment.
Monitoring of dissolution kinetics and verification that the substrate material is not subject to excessive chemical attack.
Assessment of the behavior of cleaned parts subsequently exposed to high temperatures.
In-depth metallographic examination to ensure the absence of grain boundary attack.

Our FAQ
The DMP 12-300 standard is a historical standard originating from the Snecma group (now Safran Aircraft Engines). It defines the safety and compliance requirements applicable to products, equipment, and degreasing processes for metal aerospace parts.
To qualify a degreasing product or process, the laboratory primarily evaluates:
The corrosion-inhibiting properties.
Hydrogen embrittlement (H₂) and hydrogen release.
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
Mass loss (measurement of the chemical attack on the substrate).
High-temperature corrosion.
Intergranular attack (metallographic examination of grain boundaries).
The DMP 12-300 standard is the functional predecessor of Safran's Pr-1500. Although the modern Pr-1500 provides a more comprehensive framework for the entire process chain (operators, parameters, composite and elastomer compatibility), the foundation of the metallurgical safety testing remains essentially identical.
The main parties concerned are chemical laboratories, suppliers of industrial degreasers and solvents, as well as aerospace subcontractors carrying out cleaning and degreasing operations on equipment covered by a Snecma / Safran Aircraft Engines plan.
