Do you want to measure the Caprylyl glycol present in your cosmetic products in accordance with current regulations?

What is Caprylyl glycol?

Caprylyl glycol (or 1,2 Octanediol) is used as an emulsifier in skin care products. It promotes the bonding of water and oil, improving the structure of the skin care product. Its ability to limit the proliferation of microbes makes it a widely used preservative in a wide variety of cosmetic products. Caprylic acid comes from palm oil, coconut oil or mammalian milk. A naturally occurring ingredient, it appears as a clear, colourless liquid.

Why measure Caprylyl glycol?

Caprylyl glycol is widely accepted and used in cosmetic formulations, but manufacturers are required to comply with current regulations. In Europe, caprylyl glycol is regulated by EC Regulation No. 1223/2009.

What are the properties of Caprylyl glycol?

Preservative: often used in combination with another preservative
Texturising agent: makes cosmetics easy and pleasant to use
Emollient agent: softens and smoothes the skin
Humectant agent: helps retain moisture in the skin
