Compression and mechanical laboratory tests

Compression and mechanical tests: what are they?

A compression test measures the resistance of a material to a load. The load is applied uniformly to the top surface of the specimen using a specially designed compression machine. This method is commonly used to test the strength of materials such as steel and composite materials.

A mechanical test is the study of the behavior of a material subjected to different stresses. During mechanical tests in the laboratory, several properties are studied:

  • elasticity
  • hardness
  • toughness
  • fatigue behavior
  • resistance to
  • duration, etc…

Why perform compression and mechanical tests?

Performing this type of mechanical testing on your materials allows you to better understand the various failures to which they may be subject. Indeed, compression and mechanical tests have the advantage of testing the limits of your materials in order to optimize them.

Thus, the realization of these tests allows to limit the risks of ruptures, cracks and degradations of your materials.

This is why the support of an expert laboratory in materials for the realization of compression and mechanical tests is a considerable asset in the optimization of your materials.
